Let’s face it we all come up against problems and barriers in life that we do not expect or want. Some of these problems are minor setbacks or inconveniences however, there are those problems that you encounter in life that really test you physically, mentally, emotional or spiritually and it seems like there is no progress and things are only getting worse. In fact the burden of these problems can often leave us feeling buried in hopelessness.
The encouraging thing we need to keep in mind when dealing with these problems and tests of life is that we may not be able to overcome them on our own but we have a loving heavenly Father who can and will help us to overcome any problem or situation that comes up against us.
Here are 7 keys that will help to put you into the position of victory over any problem or situation that is wreaking havoc in your life.
1. Keep your Focus Where it Belongs
One of the quickest ways to allow yourself to be defeated when facing the problems and situations in life is to focus on the size or severity of the actual problem you are facing instead of placing your focus on God where it belongs.
It doesn’t matter how big or severe the problem you’re facing is, the fact is that God is bigger than any problem you will ever encounter, and He is ready and willing to take you by the hand, give you peace and lead you down the road to victory.
Psalm 55:22 “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”
John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
This scripture from John is incredibly encouraging because even though God warns us that in our lives we will have trouble, He also tells us to take heart or simply put become confident or courageous during these difficult times keep your focus on me as I have already overcome every and any evil in the world.
2. Keep in Mind that God has a Plan For You
You were created in this world with a purpose and a plan for your life that nobody but you can take away. Satan will try to divert you away from this plan that God has for you but as long as you continually remember that no matter what comes your way, that God has a plan and purpose for you and your life and you continue to trust and rely on Him then that plan and purpose will be fulfilled in your life.
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
You need to remember that God does not send harm or problems your way. Satan is the author of all evil, and because we live in an evil world unfortunately we as Christians are affected, but we can be encouraged that God promises to help us through these times, and when victory comes we are stronger in person and in faith.
3. Surround Yourself with other Believers and Ask for Prayer
During these times of trouble that you face in life, one of the biggest things that we often need is encouragement and somebody to talk to and help us. It is extremely important that you are surrounding yourself with other Christians that will not only help to encourage and support you but will also stand in faith and pray for your situation.
It is important that you pray for your situation yourself however the Bible also tells us in Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.“. There is power in numbers, and when everybody is in agreement for your situation and are petitioning in prayer your victory will come.
4. Trust God to work Everything Out
There are a few things that you need to remember. The first is that God has promised that no matter what evil comes your way that He will take it and work it out for your good so long as you give it to him and let Him handle it.
Romans 8:28 “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good,[h] for those who are called according to his purpose.”
We only see the problem that is before us but often forget that what we see in front of us is only the tip of the iceberg. In the spiritual realm there is a war raging between good and evil and we have mighty angels fighting the principalities of darkness on our behalf. This is why having faith and operating in faith is so important to overcoming problems.
Just remember that God is never late and he’s never early. He is an on time God and at the right time according to His plan he will lift you up and deliver you from the situation or problem you are currently facing.
5. Be Thankful in Everything
Having a truly thankful attitude where you decide that despite what you’re going through you are going to give thanks to God for what he has already done in your life and what he is about to do is one of the biggest keys to staying positive and keeping your eyes on Jesus.
In fact it even tells us in the Bible in:
1 Thessalonians 5:18 ” give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
Colossians 4:2 “Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.”
Having a thankful attitude towards our Lord Jesus Christ shows where our focus and heart is. In thankfulness we choose to take our eyes off of our circumstances and problems and choose to focus our attention on God and what he has done for us. In doing this we open the door for God to be able to bless and have favor over our situations.
6. Speak Positivity and God’s Promises into Your Situation
The Bible tells us in:
Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”
This is such a powerful statement because it tells us that our lives you can either choose to use your words to confess death or life. Whichever we choose we will have to live with the consequences of our decision.
When we are faced with a situation or problem that we cannot handle we need to begin speaking life over the situation. We need to be speaking out the promises of God and using the Word to fight against attacks of negative thoughts and lies from the enemy.
Instead of speaking defeat we need to speak victory in faith, we need to speak freedom and favor over ourselves in the situation. The more you speak in faith over the situation and over your own life the more encouraged you become and the greater your faith grows.
Romans 10:17 “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”
7. Is there a Lesson to be Learned.
While I am a firm believer that God does not send problems our way, nor does he cause evil within our life, I do believe that He uses evil situation brought about by satan to teach us things and to build our faith and spiritual strength.
Often many of the problems that we will face and many of the hard times that we will have to endure will be a test that will have a lesson to be learned and will be used to build your spiritual strength and character.
So many times we become upset and discouraged however if we would just stop and take the time to realize that we are going through a test, and we ask God to show us what it is He is trying to teach us, we would be able to hear from God and pass the test a whole lot sooner than trying to fight it out on our own without God’s help.
We need to keep in mind that God always has and will have our best interest in mind. He does not want to see us hurt and only wants the best for us. That being said He also knows that as imperfect people trying to be more like him we need to mature and grow spiritually in order to live in the fullness of life that He has intended for us.
Life is not easy, in fact the Bible says that in this life we will have trouble, however; we can be encouraged and comforted by the fact that we have a loving Father that is watching over us. If we choose to put these troubles aside in favor of looking to Jesus and giving these troubles to Him, there is no problem big or small we won’t be able make it through.
