What is the Bible? How do we Know what it Says is True?

To many in today’s world, the Bible is nothing more than a “history book” filled with half true facts and information. To others, the Bible is a fictitious book thrown together and updated throughout the years to give formation to Christian religiosity. The question is: “What is the Bible really? And how do we know if it is factual or just a bunch of fictitious stories and information?”

Simply put, the Bible is a book of stories, historical accounts, prophecies, words of wisdom, warnings and information that were inspired by God and written through many of His followers thousands of years ago.  The Bible is the living Word of God and the words contained within the Bible’s cover, brings life to all who read and obey it.

How do we know that the Bible is Fact and not Fiction?

This is a great question that many people ask, and the answer to this is quite simple when you get a basic understanding of God.  God has been alive since before the beginning of time, He created everything in the Universe. He is perfect, without sin, without fault of any Kind.  God cannot sin, it is impossible for Him to do so because of His perfect nature. Psalms 18:30- “God’s way is perfect.  All the Lord’s promises prove true.  He is a shield for all who look to Him for protection.”  In knowing this, and knowing that the Bible is the inspired Word of God as shown below in John 1:1 then the Bible is either 100% true or 100% false.

John 1:1-”In the beginning the Word already existed.  The Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Now to prove that it is true,we can look at any verse in the Bible. As soon as one word is considered to be truth, we know that the entire Bible becomes verified truth based on the perfect nature of God. This is shown in Psalms 18:30 above and can be expressed again in James 1:17- “Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.”

Let’s now look into a few of the verses throughout the Bible to see if we can determine its factual claims. Here are a few verses to look at below:

Ecclesiastes 1:5- “The sun rises and the sun sets, then hurries around to rise again.”

Exodus 20:13- “You must not murder.”

Psalms 136:9a- “and the moon and the stars to rule the night.”

Job 28:5- “Food is grown on the earth above, but down below, the earth is melted as by fire.”

Proverbs 26:21- “A quarrelsome person starts fights as easily as hot embers light charcoal or fire lights wood.”

Isaiah 64:2a-”As fire causes wood to burn and water to boil.”

These are just a few verses that are seen in the Word of God that we can all agree are truthful statements.  These statements can be seen today and have been proven by science and through visual confirmation.  Therefore because these statements are true we can then surmise that the entire Bible is truth. Therefore every statement in the Word of God is real and should be taken as fact.
