Who is God? – The real Truth

There is a major search going on in today’s world for clues as to who God is, how we got here, and what or who created us.  This is no doubt seen through the extensive research of the “God” particle, and many other research programs devoted to trying to find ways of explaining our existence.  The truth of the matter is,  God has always existed even before the world or universe was ever created, He is the creator of all things, He is everywhere and He is all powerful.

The thought of this can be overwhelming and to many unbelievable, but there is no denying that God exists.  When God created each one of us, He gave us an inner desire to want to know Him and to want to follow and seek Him. When we do not fulfill this desire, we have an emptiness or void that makes us feel like we’re missing something.   If God did not exist, then we as a people would not care so much about finding out where we came from or why we’re really here.  The biggest way to start knowing who God is, is to have faith that He exists and believe that He is the creator of the universe.

God is holy and perfect and without any fault or failure.  God has created us and everything that we see around us. God desires for us to seek after Him, praise Him and to follow His ways.  This is why He gave us the Bible which is the Word of God, that was written through His followers thousands of years ago.  The Bible is our road map – if you will to learning God’s identity and the way we should live our lives.  The Bible shows us that in all of eternity, there has been, there is and and there will always be one God.  This can be seen in the Bible in John 1:1 “In the beginning the Word already existed.  The Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Even though we cannot physically see God, the Bible paints us a picture of Him through His works and Characteristics. We will go through some of these works and characteristics so that you can have a better picture of who God really is.

God is the Creator of all Things

The Bible shows us in the Book of Genesis in the 1st chapter, that God created everything including us. We can also see that God is shown as our creator in the following verses:

Isaiah 64:8 – “Yet you, Lord, are our Father.  We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.”

John 1:3 – “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”

God is Love

God is Love, He loves us and only wants the best for us.  The words, warnings and commands He gave us in His word were not meant to keep us from having fun. They were meant for our own good, because He loves us and cares about what happens to us.  If you read the entire Bible, it speaks only of love, respect, compassion, kindness, loyalty, and faithfulness. This is because the Word is God and God is love.  In the Bible it states in John 3:16 – “For God loved the world so much that He sent His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”  We can also see instances of God’s love in the following verses:

John 15:2- “This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you.”

1 John 4:8- “But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”

1 John 4:10 “This is real love – not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.”

God is our Savior

In this world there is good and evil, there is heaven and hell and everybody when they die will go to either heaven or hell.  God knew that with our sinful nature, it would be impossible for us to be able to make it to heaven on our own.  This is why He sent His son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins.  It was because of this act of great love that we are now able to be saved from eternal damnation due to our sinful nature.  In God’s sight we are stained with sin. However Jesus died for our sin, so as long as Christ lives in us and we have faith in Jesus Christ and what He did for us, then we are covered by the blood of Jesus. This makes us look  blameless and sinless to God.  We can see this through the following verses:

John 3:17- “God sent His Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through Him.”

2 Timothy 1:9- “For God saved us and called us to live a holy life.  He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was His plan from before the beginning of time-to show us His grace through Christ Jesus.

Romans 10:13- “For everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved”.

Acts 4:12- “There is salvation in no one else!  God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”

These are just a few instances recorded in the Bible about who God is and helps paint us a picture of Him.  You have to remember that trying to use logic and reasoning in order to “figure God out” will never amount to anything, because we as His creation can never fully comprehend God.  You need to believe in faith that God is real and that He is who He says He is in His word.  Once you have accepted Jesus Christ in your heart through faith, you will quickly realize that the void or emptiness that you had in you is now gone and you will begin to learn more about who God is than you ever have before.
