When was the last time you felt completely at peace, without a care in the world? When was the last time you were able to sit, relax and just clear your mind completely relax in peaceful bliss?
Hurricanes are a natural disaster with incredible power and devastation. The power of the winds blowing the water and all kinds of debris all over the place, the destructive power of the rushing water as it goes ashore and decimates everything it its path. During a hurricane there is no peace, no serenity there is only chaos and a lot of times this type of chaos or lack of peace describes how we feel on a daily basis. We feel overwhelmed constantly uneasy about things happening in our lives and we begin to feel run down and discouraged.
I remember going up north to a cottage on a lake one year for vacation. One morning I woke up fairly early and decided to go outside for a walk. As I walked out to the lake I couldn’t help but notice the calmness of everything around me. There was a thick fog hovering above the lake and the lake looked like a sheet of glass, not one ripple. Nothing was moving there was not one sound it was the most calming, peaceful and enjoyable experiences of my life.
It was during this experience that I realized that this is the type of peace and serenity we are inwardly looking for on a daily basis. We want to feel that peace, that calm serene feeling in our bodies, minds, and souls that causes us to feel happy and calm even when problems, and disasters happen in our lives. The good news is that we can have this kind of peace each and every day.
The Bible tells us how we can have a peace that passes all understanding. I’d like to direct your attention to three verses in the Word of God that show us how to get this peace.
Philippians 4:6-7 “Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
Job 22:21 “Submit to God, and you will have peace; then things will go well for you.”
Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!”
The key to having that complete peace and serenity in your life that you long for is to live each day placing all of your issues, problems and concerns at the feet of Jesus through prayer, keeping your eyes fixed on Him instead of the things around you that are causing the chaos, and giving thanks to God no matter what the situation. It is only through God that we can receive this peace, nothing else and nobody else can give you complete peace in your life.
Proverbs 16:7 “When people’s lives please the Lord, even their enemies are at peace with them.”
Colossians 3:15 “And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.”
2 Thessalonians 3:16 “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you His peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.”
Today Heavenly Father I give to you all of these things which have been causing me to lack peace. Today I am deciding to put my trust in you, and I am deciding to look to you and thank you no matter what. I thank you Father for receiving my burdens at your feet, and for your goodness and the incredible peace that you have promised me. I thank you Father today for hearing my prayer and so graciously granting me this peace. Glory to God. Amen
