Fear can be defined as “An unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.”
Today many live their daily lives being plagued with the emotion of fear and worry and their quality of life is destroyed because of it. Fear grips the world today more tightly than ever, with the continual talks of war, poverty, increasing violence, jobless rates increasing, corruption riddled police forces and government agencies and many other situations that we deal with on a daily basis in the world today.
As Christians we have to remember that sin is the reason for all of this fear and devastation all around us today. It is because as a nation we have lost the fear of the Lord and we have decided to kick God out of our lives, schools, churches, cities, and country in favor of not offending other religious groups. Despite all of the sinful things happening around us and the fear that they evoke we can still be encouraged that God is on our side and He will NEVER leave or forsake us. This does not mean we won’t face many of life’s lemons, but when these lemons are thrown at us and knock us down or cause suffering we can know that God is right there and is coming to our rescue and will save us. We can see that in God’s Word it tells us:
Psalms 33:18 “But the Lord watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love.”
Psalms 34:7 “For the angel of the Lord is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him.”
Psalms 115:11 “All you who fear the Lord, trust the Lord! He is your helper and your shield.”
The only fear we should have and allow to grip us as Christians is a healthy fear of God himself. God is our father, our protector, our savior, friend and our help in times of trouble. He loves us and wants to protect us and keep us safe from all of life’s lemons that sin brought into this world. When lemons begin hitting us and testing our lives we need to remember give these lemons to God and trust Him to work it all out for our good. We are told in the Word of God that:
2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self discipline.”
Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Then you will have healing for you body and strength for your bones.”
Proverbs 1:33 “But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.”
Heavenly Father I praise your wonderful name and thank you for your protection, grace and love. Father today I ask that you would speak to me and remind me that you are in control. I ask Father that you would teach me to depend on you in fearful times where the situations seem too big to overcome. I ask Father that in the name of Jesus that you would renew my mind and spirit; breaking down those fearful strongholds that cause me to think fearful thoughts. I thank you Father for your favor and protection on my life. Amen.
