There isn’t anyone on this earth that has not gone through some tough times or some circumstances that have tested your patience, or your mental and emotional strength. The world as we know it today is full of terrible events, violence, death and tragedy, all of which work to build up a negative outlook towards life, people, groups or things. This negativity can over time begin to get stronger and start to take over our thoughts, actions and emotions. We soon notice that whenever something goes wrong or whenever we come to a situation that is tough we immediately start thinking, speaking negativity. Negativity is one of satan’s favorite attacks because it is effective in destroying your happiness, vigor, attitude, productivity, relationships and worse, your ability to communicate and have a proper relationship with Christ. Romans 8:6 and 1 Peter 3:10 tell us:
“So letting your sinful nature control your minds leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.”
“For the Scriptures say, If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies.”
The Bible tells us very clearly that instead of complaining or allowing negative thoughts which are from satan (sinful nature) to enter our minds, that in every circumstance no matter how bad or how good we need to give thanks to God. We have to remember that when times of gladness, and rejoicing come along that we need not forget God, the One who has given us these blessings and we also have to remember that when bad times come that we need to take these bad situations and hand them to the Lord in prayer and be thankful that He is there helping us. It says in Colossians 4:2:
“Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and thankful heart.”
Being thankful and exhibiting a positive attitude is very important not only because it will help to improve your quality of life here on earth, but it more importantly it helps to keep the spirit realm from successfully planting negativity into your mind. Many do not realize the extreme effect our words have in the spirit realm. It says in the Bible that our words can create life and it can also create death. We see just how powerful words can be when we think about the fact that God spoke the world, universe and everything else into existence, Jesus spoke out and cast out demons, performed miracles by speaking them in faith. Proverbs 18:21 shows us this point :
” The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences”
It is up to you and I to take charge of our lives, take charge of our minds, tongues and attitudes and instead of falling to the sinful nature of negativity, we need to pray and ask that the Holy Spirit would renew our minds each and every day to be thankful and positive. This will please the Lord and will bring joy, happiness and a long full life your way no matter what circumstance or attack from satan comes along.
Ephesians 4:23-24 “Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God – truly righteous and holy.”
Philippians 4:8 “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
Psalms 97:11 “Light shines on the godly, and joy on those whose hearts are right. May all who are godly rejoice in the Lord and praise his Holy name!”
Proverbs 13:9 “The life of the godly is full of light and joy, but the light of the wicked will be snuffed out.”
My Prayer Today
Heavenly Father I give you thanks today for your goodness and willingness to come to my rescue in times of trouble. Father I know that a positive attitude is from You and will lead to life and a negative attitude is from satan and leads only to death. I choose today Father God with your help to walk in and keep a positive attitude today no matter what situation or problem should come my way. I pray Holy Spirit that you would renew my mind with the thoughts and attitudes of Christ and I thank you for helping me to overcome my sinful nature and the destructive thinking that comes with it. I thank you again for you mercy and grace and I ask and speak these things in the name of Jesus. Amen.
