The world as we know it today is just buzzing along, everyday we are discovering something new, getting new things, having fun with family and friends and having a great time enjoying our lives. There is no doubt this world has a lot to offer and we take full advantage of this fact. This however, can be dangerous, too many times become so wrapped up in this world and what it has to offer that we forget that this is not our real home, we are only visitors here on earth, and more important yet we are on this earth with a mission; a mission we often put on the back burner while we enjoy the pleasures of this world. It says in the Word of God:
1 John 2:15-17 “Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.”
The truth of the matter is that there is a far greater life beyond this world. It’s no surprise that one day we will die, and all of the “stuff” and “good times” of this world will be gone and forgotten, it is at this point that we will begin our real lives as spiritual beings either in Heaven or hell. This is definitely not to say that you cannot enjoy this life on the earth to the fullest, it just means that you have to be careful not to take your eyes off of Jesus and your mission as a Christian, and become attached to the pleasures and things of this world, allowing them to knock you off track and away from the will of God for your life.
Our mission while on this earth is to be light in the darkness, it is our responsibility to win the lost to Christ. The whole reason Jesus was sent to earth was so that He could save us from our sins by dying on the cross, now that this has been accomplished He has commanded us to share this good word to the lost so that they too may be saved. It shows us this in the Bible:
Mark 15:16 “And then He told them, Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.”
Matthew 28:18-20 “Jesus came and told His disciples, ‘I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ “
Galatians 6:14 “As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross, my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died.”
John 15:19 “The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you.”
