Marriage is a God ordained act in which a male and female come together and become one. The Word of God has many Bible verses about Marriage, not only talking about it, but giving us a look at how marriage is suppose to be, and how we as husband and wife are to treat each other.
Unfortunately in today’s society marriage is no longer what God had originally intended, and the very definition of marriage as set out by God himself has been completely changed and desecrated. We as a nation and as individuals, need to take a look at these Bible verses about marriage, and begin to let them shape our marriages, and shape how we view marriage overall.
Today I would like to give you 10 Bible verses that will teach you or remind you what marriage is suppose to be, as set forth by God.
15 Bible Verses about Marriage
Genesis 2:21-24 “So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the Lord God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the opening. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man. “At last!” the man exclaimed.“This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called ‘woman,’ because she was taken from ‘man.’” This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.”
1 Corinthians 7:1-5 “Now regarding the questions you asked in your letter. Yes, it is good to abstain from sexual relations. But because there is so much sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman should have her own husband.
The husband should fulfill his wife’s sexual needs, and the wife should fulfill her husband’s needs. 4 The wife gives authority over her body to her husband, and the husband gives authority over his body to his wife.
Do not deprive each other of sexual relations, unless you both agree to refrain from sexual intimacy for a limited time so you can give yourselves more completely to prayer. Afterward, you should come together again so that Satan won’t be able to tempt you because of your lack of self-control.”
Malachi 2:15 “Didn’t the Lord make you one with your wife? In body and spirit you are his. And what does he want? Godly children from your union. So guard your heart; remain loyal to the wife of your youth.”
Genesis 3:16 “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you.”
Hebrews 13:4 “Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery.”
1 Corinthians 7:14 “For the Christian wife brings holiness to her marriage, and the Christian husband brings holiness to his marriage. Otherwise, your children would not be holy, but now they are holy.”
Romans 7:2 “For example, when a woman marries, the law binds her to her husband as long as he is alive. But if he dies, the laws of marriage no longer apply to her.”
Ephesians 5:20,21 “And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.”
Ephesians 5:22-24 “For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23 For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. 24 As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything.”
Ephesians 5:25-29 “For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word. He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church.”
Colossians 3:18,19 “Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly.”
Titus 2:4 “These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God.”
1 Peter 3:1 “In the same way, you wives must accept the authority of your husbands. Then, even if some refuse to obey the Good News, your godly lives will speak to them without any words. They will be won over.”
1 Peter 3:7 “In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered.”
Malachi 2:16 ““For I hate divorce!” says the Lord, the God of Israel. “To divorce your wife is to overwhelm her with cruelty,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. So guard your heart; do not be unfaithful to your wife.”
These Bible verses about marriage speak volumes as to how marriage today should be, and was meant to be. Marriage the way God intended it is supposed to be a life long journey; a close bond shared between 1 woman and 1 man. This journey is to have God in the center of it, and both partners are to uplift and encourage each other, and bring edification to each others lives.
The marriage that is talked about in the Bible is suppose to be 2 people dying to their own desires and instead working to please and fulfill the desires of their spouses. Marriage will not be easy because that which was created by God, must be destroyed by satan, and so problems and issues will come your way but, those who lean on and depend on the strength of the Lord will endure and will develop a great and satisfying marriage.
