With Easter quickly approaching I feel that it is only fitting that we take some time to ponder on and remember what it is about Easter that is so very important. Today’s world would have you believe that it is all about candy, and Easter eggs and gifts, however the truth of the matter is that Easter is the celebration and remembrance of what was accomplished by Jesus Christ for us on the cross. Easter is about Jesus Christ dying on the cross for our sins, and then conquering the grave and proving His authority over death(sin) by rising from the dead 3 days later. There are some great Easter Bible verses that help to remind us of what Christ did for us and what was accomplished in doing so.
Easter Bible Verses
Matthew 16:21 – “From then on Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem, and that he would suffer many terrible things at the hands of the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but on the third day he would be raised from the dead.”
Matthew 20:19 – “Then they will hand him over to the Romans to be mocked, flogged with a whip, and crucified. But on the third day he will be raised from the dead.”
Luke 9:22 – “The Son of Man must suffer many terrible things,” he said. “He will be rejected by the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He will be killed, but on the third day he will be raised from the dead.”
Acts 2:32 – “God raised Jesus from the dead, and we are all witnesses of this.”
Acts 3:15 – “You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. And we are witnesses of this fact!”
Acts 4:10 – “Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead”
Romans 1:4 – “and he was shown to be the Son of God when he was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. He is Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 6:4 -”For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.”
Romans 6:9 – “We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him.”
Romans 10:9 – “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Ephesians 1:20 – “that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.”
Ephesians 2:5 -”that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)”
1 Peter 1:3 – “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation.”
John 11:25,26 – “Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”
Philippians 3:10,11 -” I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!”
The death of Jesus Christ on the cross and his resurrection from death, gives us great hope because we now have a way to the Father. Through the shed blood of Jesus Christ we have been freed from the bondage of sin over our lives, and we can be made righteous in the sight of God through the Lord Jesus Christ.
It is very important that we remember the true and real reason that Easter is celebrated. Without the cross, and without Jesus Christ willingly giving up His own life for us, we would be doomed for an eternity of anguish and punishment for our sins.
