Forgiveness is an essential part of Christian life and should be freely given as God freely forgives us. Even though family, friends or strangers may hurt us or commit an “unforgivable” sin towards us forgiveness is a must. The word of God has many bible verses about forgiveness and states that it is imperative that we forgive or we ourselves cannot be forgiven. This is shown when Jesus says in Matthew 6:15 “But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.” Refusing to forgive another for sinning against you is will wreak havoc on your mind, body and soul and is comparable to drinking poison and expecting the person who sinned against you to die. Below are some bible verses about forgiveness that will show you the command to forgive and will show you the mercy and forgiveness that our Father shows us.
Matthew 6:14- “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.”
Psalms 65:3- “Though we are overwhelmed by our sins, you forgive them all.”
Acts 13:38- “Brothers, listen! We are here to proclaim that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins.”
1Kings 8:50- “Forgive your people who have sinned against you. Forgive all the offenses they have committed against you. Make their captors merciful to them.”
Mark 11:25- “But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.”
Luke 17:4- “Even if that person wrongs you seven times a day and each time turns again and asks forgiveness, you must forgive.”

Colossians 3:13- “Make allowance for each others faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”
Psalms 86:5- “O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Luke 6:37- “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven.

1 John 1:9- “But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
As you can see through these bible verses about forgiveness, God is a very forgiving, merciful God who is always willing to forgive not only in the mind but in His heart as well. A Christians we are called to be like Christ and therefore must show the same mercy and forgiveness towards others.
