Heaven……Have you ever just taken time to think about heaven, what it will be like, what it will look like, or what you’ll be doing when you get there? There are many Bible verses about heaven that help to paint us a picture of what heaven is, what it’s like and how we can get there.
As sort of a side note, it’s important to understand that the Bible talks about 3 different types of heaven, the first and second heaven that is described in the bible talks about the skies and space where the planets and solar systems reside. The third heaven describes the home of God, the holy abode of the Most High and all of his heavenly hosts.
Bible Verses about what Heaven Is
Deuteronomy 4:39 “Know therefore today, and lay it to your heart, that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other.”
Deuteronomy 26:15 “Look down from your holy habitation, from heaven, and bless your people Israel and the ground that you have given us, as you swore to our fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.’”
2 Samuel 22:14 “The Lord thundered from heaven, and the Most High uttered his voice.”
1 Kings 8:49 “then hear in heaven your dwelling place their prayer and their plea, and maintain their cause”
Nehemiah 9:6 “You are the Lord, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships you.”
Psalm 11:4 “The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord’s throne is in heaven; his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man.”
The Bible hints here and there about what Heaven looks like but the most descriptive Bible verse about heaven comes from Revelation 21 where John describes what he saw when he was taken up to Heaven.
Bible Verses about Heaven and what it Looks Like
Revelation 21:10-27 “And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, having the glory of God, its radiance like a most rare jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal.
It had a great, high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on the gates the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel were inscribed— on the east three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on the west three gates. And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
And the one who spoke with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city and its gates and walls. The city lies foursquare, its length the same as its width. And he measured the city with his rod, 12,000 stadia. Its length and width and height are equal.
He also measured its wall, 144 cubitsby human measurement, which is also an angel’s measurement. The wall was built of jasper, while the city was pure gold, like clear glass. The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with every kind of jewel.
The first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl, and the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.
And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.
By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there. They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations. But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.”
We can see that even from the end of the previous scripture that the only people who will be allowed to enter the Kingdom of Heaven will be those who are righteous in the sight of God. The only way for this to happen according to the Bible is to turn to God, give our hearts and entire lives to Jesus Christ, and He will forgive us our sins and make us righteous in the sight of God.

Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”
General Bible Verses about Heaven
Ephesians 6:12 “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”
Hebrews 12:28 “Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe.”
Heaven regardless of what the world may believe is very real, just as Hell is a very real place. We are told that Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven and that those who reject Christ and choose to live their lives outside of Christ will receive entrance into a place where even your darkest nightmares would seem like paradise.
Heaven is a place of ultimate peace, joy, happiness and love. In Heaven there is no pain, loneliness, hurt, evil or darkness of any kind. You only have 2 choices its Heaven or hell and based on what and who you decide to follow in this life will determine which one you get a ticket for when you leave this earth.
