Bible verses on Marriage

God is all for marriage and wants us to be able to enjoy a happy fulfilling life with our spouses.  This is evident in His word with many bible verses on Marriage and even an entire book (Song of Solomon / Song of Songs) devoted to the love and pleasures of married couples.  Marriage is a serious commitment that creates a sanctified covenant between the man and wife that should last until death and should never be broken. The word of God clearly shows this in Malachi 2:16 “For I hate divorce!” says the Lord, the God of Israel. “To divorce your wife is to overwhelm her with cruelty,” says the Lord of Heaven’s armies.  So guard your heart; do not be unfaithful to your wife.” Here are some bible verses on marriage.

Matthew 19:5,6- “And Jesus said, “This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.  Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.”

1 Corinthians 7:2- “But because there is so much sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman should hav her own husband.”

Matthew 19:9- “And I tell you this, whoever divorces his wife and marries someone else commits adultery-unless his wife has been unfaithful”.

Hebrews 13:4- “Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage.  God will surely judge people who are immoral and whose who commit adultery.”

Luke 16:18- “For example, aman who divorces his wife and marries someone else commits adultery.  And anyone who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery.”

1 Corinthians 7:4- “The wife gives authority over her body to her husband, and the husband gives authority over his body to his wife.”

1 Corintians 7:3- “The husband should fulfill his wife’s sexual needs, and the wife should fulfill her husband’s needs.

Colossians 3:18,19- “Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly.”

Proverbs 12:4- “A worthy wife is a crown for her husband, but a disgraceful woman is like a cancer in his bones.”

Ephesians 5:25- “For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church.  He gave up his life for her.”

1 Corinthians 7:14- “For this Christian wife brings holiness to her marriage, and the Christian husband brings holiness to his marriage.  otherwise, your children would not be holy, but now they are holy.”

Proverbs 5:18- “Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you. Rejoice in the wife of your youth.”

1 Corinthians 7:33-”But a married man has to think about his earthly responsibilities and how to please his wife.”

We can see through these bible verses on marriage that the purpose of marriage is to show others how God loves the church, it is our responsibility to  work together as a team to teach our kids the right ways of God, witness and win the lost to Christ and to fulfill the needs of our spouses.  Divorce should never be an option unless there is unfaithfulness by one of the parties.
