This Bible verse is a true testament to what Easter is all about. Unfortunately as society moves further away from God, we see that Easter now focuses more on gifts, partying, the Easter bunny and other gimmicks used to take the importance off the real reason Easter is supposed to be celebrated. 1 Peter 1:3 gives us a clear reminder that it is because of the incredible selfless act of Christ Jesus and what was accomplished on the cross that Easter is so important.
Jesus Christ willingly gave up His perfect, spotless, sinless life for us, imperfect sinners. He took all of the blame and punishment for all of our sins, and died, but after 3 days God brought Jesus Christ back from the dead, signifying that the power of death (sin) could not conquer the power of Christ, rather Christ conquered death (sin) and now through Jesus Christ we can be forgiven for our sins and have eternal life.
You see we often forget just how important, and how crucial what Christ did for us really was. Too many times we get wrapped up in our daily lives here on earth, and we forget about what is really important; our heavenly inheritance, that was paid for by Christs blood. This is worth more than anything else earth could ever offer us. Our time here on earth is but a blink of an eye as compared to where we will spend eternity.
Easter is more than just all of the distractions that the world has put in place, it is about our salvation from eternal suffering in hell. It is about the power of Christ being shown, and the power of sin over our lives being broken. Easter is about Jesus Christ taking the punishment that we all deserved so we didn’t have to be doomed when we died. That is what Easter is about and that what I choose to celebrate.
If you have never given your life to Christ, and want to accept the free gift of Salvation that He offers to everybody who wants it, then I would encourage you to do so. Visit our “Make Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior“
