God is good, and His promises endure forever!. This verse is a great encouragement, as it shows that by heeding the Word of God and giving of your time and finances as tithes, and as offerings and gifts to the poor and to those who need it, God will not only repay you, but He will repay you with interest and will abundantly bless your life.
Luke 6:38 shows us the importance that God places on giving, and being generous with what He has given to us to manage. Giving and being generous is a way of showing faith and trust in God, that He will provide for you and supply all of your needs no matter what happens. Giving of our time and finances teaches us to fear and respect God, which is important for a good healthy strong relationship with the Lord.
We as Christians are called to give freely of our time and money to those in need, and to do so with a cheerful heart that is willing and open to doing so. Giving with hesitation or with the wrong motives, I believe completely nullifies the point of giving and why God requests it of us. To get the full benefit of giving and being generous we should do so with a willing, cheerful and sincere heart.
However, on the flip side this verse also serves as a warning as it follows the spiritual law of planting and harvesting. So while if you give of love, time, finances and are generous, you will harvest abundance, happiness, love, respect and relationships, however if you plant seeds of discourse, anger, selfishness, hatred, and treat others terribly, you shall receive it back as this verse states “full-pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over.”
