The basic concept of Romans 6:15,16 is the fact that Jesus died on the cross for our sins thus wiping our sins clean and making us righteous before God. So we are no longer slaves to sin but we are now children of God through Jesus Christ.
There are many out there today that believe that if they have asked Jesus Christ into their hearts and they believe that they are saved once and for all. They then continue on in their sinful lifestyle, never even trying to fully understand the Word of God or follow the examples that Jesus Christ set for us. People get caught up on the “God’s Grace” and have the notion that because Jesus died for all of our sins once and for all that it doesn’t matter if we sin or not, we can always ask for forgiveness later on.
The problem with this view is that, you’re in essence taking advantage what Christ did for you and you’re using it as a scapegoat to feed the very sin filled lifestyle that Jesus Christ freed you from. We have to remember that if we truly ask God into our hearts, it means that we are making the decision to drop our old lifestyles and habits, turn to Him, and follow Him wholeheartedly. Its important to understand that when we make Christ our Savior, we must also make Him our Lord(master, leader, king).
Paul confirms this in Romans 6:15,16 when the questions is asked “What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace?”. To which Paul answers “Certainly Not!”. The whole purpose of Jesus Christ dying for our sins was not to give us a reason to continue sinning without consequences or punishment, rather it was so that we could be offered a way to break free from the power that sin had over us.
I would encourage you today, to take this time if you have not done so, to make Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior. Turn away from your current sinful lifestyle and begin a new walk, a new journey with Christ Jesus. A journey that will positively impact and change your life forever.
