Everything Happens for a Reason Bible Verse

While the expression “Everything happens for a reason” may seem like it’s a Bible verse the truth of the matter is that this expression does not exist in the Bible.  Literally stated there is no “Everything happens for a reason Bible Verse, however there are a couple of places in the Bible that are somewhat related to this expression.

The first Bible Verse that could be comparable or similar to the expression “Everything happens for a reason” is found in Romans 8:28.

New Living Translation

“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”

King James Version

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

The second Bible verse that is somewhat similar or could possibly deliver same message as the expression “Everything happens for a reason” is found in the Old Testament in the book of Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

New Living Translation

“For everything there is a season,
a time for every activity under heaven.

A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to harvest.

A time to kill and a time to heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build up.

A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.

A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.

A time to search and a time to quit searching.
A time to keep and a time to throw away

A time to tear and a time to mend.
A time to be quiet and a time to speak.

A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.”

King James Version

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.”

The reason why I believe there is no “Everything happens for a reason Bible Verse”, is because of the fact that we all have free will, and basically the expression gives off the idea that God causes everything to happen for a specific reason.

In reality however, because we as people do have free will, many of the things good or bad that happen are out of the free will decisions and/or actions that we or others may make.

However what it does say in the Bible is that no matter what happens good or bad that if you place your trust in God and you live a life that is honoring to Him that He will bless you and take even the worst of situations or events and work them out for your good.
