Love is Patient Bible Verse – 1 Corinthians 13:4

The Word of God speaks a great deal on love, and it really is no surprise due to the fact that it says that God is love.  God is literally the very essence of what love is and what love should be.  In 1 Corinthians 13:4 we are given a detailed look at what the true characteristics of real love are.  The Word of God says:

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.  Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

True Biblical love paints us a very different picture of what love is and what love should look like than we are taught today.  In fact if the world were to adopt the and begin living love out, exactly the way it is described in 1 Corinthians 13:4 – 7, the world would be shifted 180 degrees, and instead of thriving off of self edification, and selfish desires, the world would become a place where people put others first before their own needs, where people would find great pleasure in helping others and in doing good towards others.

Love is more than an emotion, it is more than an event, it is a very powerful outward expression of submission and service to others.  In fact the Bible also tells us that the whole law, and all of the demands of the prophets are summed up on two small commandments and they are found in Matthew 22:36 -40:

Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.  The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.

Too many times we become wrapped up in what is happening in the world around us, and we lose sight of what is truly important and what is expected of us as true Christians.  We are call to focus our attention and real love on first and foremost God, but then secondly our neighbors.  Not ourselves and what we want, and what we believe belongs to us or we deserve, but rather be servants to others just as Jesus Christ, the Son of God was a servant to the people of the earth.

Just remember that true love can never be explained or fabricated by this world, because this world is the exact opposite of what love is, we need to remember that the true meaning of love and how we should be exhibiting love is based on the verse in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7:

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.  Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
